Music is a big part of our home- we listen to it, we watch it, we play it, we sing it. Some days, when we are all needing a pick-me-up, I put on some music to lift our spirits and lift our hearts and minds. For the last few years, we have been Spotify fans. In case you haven’t heard of Spotify (https://www.spotify.com/au/), it is a digital music app that you can use for free with advertisements or pay for the premium version. Through the app, you can search for artists who you like to listen to and then stream the music over your internet.

I wanted to share with you what I am listening to lately- they can all be found on Spotify or they can be purchased in CD form.

Audrey Assad-Inheritance CoverInheritance- Audrey Assad (2016)

Audrey Assad’s latest album “Inheritance” (2016) is a collection of hymns and original songs that are beautiful soundscapes of layered sounds and instruments. For this album, Assad was inspired by her Brethren upbringing, where hymns were sung in harmonious a cappella. Assad’s songs capture the highs and lows of living a life to follow Jesus. Described by Assad herself as an “offering”, this collection of music calms my restless spirit and often realigns our hearts to Jesus.

These two albums were gifted to us when Esther was born and we have loved listening to them. Piano renditions of some of our favourite songs to come from Hillsong in recent years, these two albums are beautiful to listen to and calming for all, not just the bub of the family! Including “Christ is Enough,” “God is Able,” “Oceans,” “Lead Me to the Cross,” “This I Believe (The Creed),” “Broken Vessels,” and “Man of Sorrows”, we find ourselves singing along and meditating on who God is, the gift of life in Jesus and the difference Jesus makes.

Facing a Task Unfinished- Keith and Kristyn Getty (2016)

“Facing a Task Unfinished” is the latest from modern hymn-writers, Keith and Kristyn Getty. Famous for their chart-topping “In Christ Alone,” the Getty’s manage to merge biblical truths with beautiful melody to create songs that are perfect for singing both in a congregation or alone in the shower and anywhere in between. This latest album continues to have Irish influence, which I love. The album also features Chris Tomlin, Fernando Ortega and John Patitucci.

as family we goAs Family We Go- Rend Collective (2015)

Rend Collective are an indie-inspired, folk group coming from Northern Ireland. Great biblical words, teamed together with creative layered sound, this album inspires joy and celebration about the Christian life. Vibrant and eclectic with captivating lyrics, this album makes us all want to get up and dance, or inspire the kids to  race off and get their drum and tambourine to join in the fun and play along.
