I remember those first months of being a new mother. Hard couldn’t begin to describe it. While I was overjoyed at my beautiful little girl, the lack of sleep, feeding issues and worry made those first months a struggle. I remember feeling that God was chipping away at my selfishness, making me more dependent on Him and a little less dependent on myself.

Recently, I was asked what Bible verses I would give to a new mum to encourage them in those difficult months of adjusting to the joy and challenges of mothering. During the hard and troubling times of life, we can be confident that we serve a sovereign and utterly trustworthy God. We can rest in Him, knowing that even though we may not see the future, or the day ahead through the haze of sleep deprivation, we can turn fully to Him, for He is faithful.

I have included the three verses that I have often turned to. I have also made them into a printable below. Feel free to print and put in a frame. They are sized to fit an 8″ x 10″ frame.

Isaiah 26:3

You keep him in perfect peace
    whose mind is stayed on you,
    because he trusts in you.

Isaiah 40:11

He will tend his flock like a shepherd;
    he will gather the lambs in his arms;
he will carry them in his bosom,
    and gently lead those that are with young.

Lamentations 3:21-23

But this I call to mind,
    and therefore I have hope:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

    great is your faithfulness.
