Glimpses of Grace: Treasuring the Gospel in Your Home by Gloria Furman (Crossway, 2013), was a pleasure to read. Structured in two parts- Your Foundation in the Mundane and The Miraculous in the Mundane- Furman combines both strong theology with practical application in a way that allows you to see how the Bible and truth of the Gospel can really impact your life.
Furman writes in a personable way, sharing raw and honest details about her failings and sin, which makes the beautiful of the Gospel and her heart for Jesus shine brightly. I was inspired reading this- what would the church be like if we shared more openly and honestly about the sin in our life in order to glorify God and praise Him for the sacrifice of Jesus and work of the Spirit in our lives!?
Similar to Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full (Furman, Crossway, 2014), I found my thoughts readjusting to the radiance of the Son and the Salvation He brings. The Holy Spirit used His Word and gospel-truth that undergirded this book to grow me. As I read Furman’s personal reflections on the reality of the Gospel and the Word of God in her life, I was encouraged. I laughed at the ‘mundane’ mothering moments Furman shares, that I could so relate to. I also felt the loving admonition of a Christian sister and realised afresh how ‘iron sharpens iron’.
A book I would highly recommend for mothers who are seeking to fill their homes with Gospel-centred grace.
